Chapter 030: Truthfulness (Vizhiyappan's Translation)

0291.  வாய்மை எனப்படுவது யாதெனின் யாதொன்றும்
           தீமை இலாத சொலல்

           What is called truth is, speaking
           no word with evil

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: What is called the truth is to speak in a such a way that
           not a
           single word effects the evil.

           What is called the humane is to think in such a way that not a single thought seeds
           the treachery.

0292.  பொய்மையும் வாய்மை யிடத்த புரைதீர்ந்த
           நன்மை பயக்கும் எனின்

           Even lie becomes truthful, if it
           can give guiltless benefit

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Even a lie is considered as on par with the truth, if it do
           not have any guilt but give a benefit.

           Even an inertia is considered as the form of love, if do not have any motivation but
           strengthen the relationship.

0293.  தன்நெஞ் சறிவது பொய்யற்க பொய்த்தபின்
           தன்நெஞ்சே தன்னைச் சுடும்

           Don’t lie when mind knows; after lying,
           our mind itself hurt us

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: We should not lie, which is felt as lie to our mind; after
           having lied so, our mind itself will hurt us.

           We should not do treachery, which is known as treachery to our consciousness; after
           having done so, our self itself will wound us.

0294.  உள்ளத்தாற் பொய்யா தொழுகின் உலகத்தார்
           உள்ளத்து ளெல்லாம் உளன்

           Who don't lie at heart, will
           occupy everyone's heart

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Those who live with the discipline and do not lie even at
           heart, will  occupy the heart of everyone in the world.

           Those who speak with the reality and do not overstate even at campaign, will mingle
           with the hope of all the citizens.

0295.  மனத்தொடு வாய்மை மொழியின் தவத்தொடு
           தானஞ்செய் வாரின் தலை

           Speaking truth with conscience, is better
           than who do penance & donate

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Those who agree with the conscience and speak truth,
           are greater than those who do penance and donate.

           Those who unite with the policy and do politics, are mighty than those who have
           authority and army.

0296.  பொய்யாமை அன்ன புகழில்லை எய்யாமை
           எல்லா அறமுந் தரும்

           No fame can peer "not-lying"; it effortlessly
           develops all the ethics

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: There is no fame that can be on par with "not lying"; it
           develops all kind of ethics without much efforts.

           There is no soul-satisfcation that equals "not losing the self"; it teaches all good
           characters without any efforts.

0297.  பொய்யாமை பொய்யாமை ஆற்றின் அறம்பிற
           செய்யாமை செய்யாமை நன்று

           If "Not-lying" is secured, not avoiding
           the non-ethics is good

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: If the stance of "not lying" is made sure that do not
           become a lie, even the failure to avoid the non ethics can be considered as good.

           If the basic of "not forgetting the humane" is made sure that it is not destroyed, even
           the oblivion to avoid the unnecessary racisms can be felt as great.

0298.  புறந்தூய்மை நீரான் அமையும் அகந்தூய்மை

           வாய்மையால் காணப் படும்

           Outer-clean is achieved by water; inner-clean

           is realized by truthfulness

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: As keeping the body clean, is achieved by water;
           keeping the mind clean can be realized by the truthfulness.

           As determining the acts right, is strengthened by thoughts; determining the self right 

           can be strengthened by self-analysis.

0299.  எல்லா விளக்கும் விளக்கல்ல சான்றோர்க்குப்
           பொய்யா விளக்கே விளக்கு

           All lamps aren’t lamps; for scholars,
           “not-lying” is real lamp

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: The lamps, which eliminate the outer-darkness are not
           lamps for scholars! According to them, the virtue of “not lying” that eliminate
           darkness of mind is real lamp.

           The kindness, which is shown to friends is not humane for the "servants of God"!
           According to them, the kindness shown to enemy is real humane.

0300.  யாமெய்யாக் கண்டவற்றுள் இல்லை எனைத்தொன்றும்
           வாய்மையின் நல்ல பிற

           Among those we have explored, nothing
           is better than truthfulness

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Among all those we have explored by analyzing the
           fact, there is no possibility for anything else to be better than truthfulness.

           Among all those we have done by anticipating the happiness, there is no chance for
           anything else to be greater than sharing.
